Auburn is half a mile east of Downtown. In its heyday during the
1920s, Sweet Auburn was a prosperous area of black-owned
businesses and jazz clubs. Since the Depression the area had
become somewhat dilapidated and revitalization was slow. It is
also the neighborhood of Dr. Martin Luther King and home of the
Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site.
